On March 14, 2009 the African-American Historical Society of Long Beach (AAHSLB), California African American Genealogical Society (CAAGS), Middle Passage Research Group (MPRG) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints (LDS) will be hosting the Seventh Annual Discover Your Roots Conference. An all day genealogy conference will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, 1209 South Manhattan Place, Los Angeles, CA 90019.

Topics of interest: The topics of interest are all aspects and levels of family history research. All topics dealing with genealogy, African-American history (including church, town or institution), and research methodologies are invited. We are looking for presenters that have solidly research their topics area, and are able to inform a diverse audience and deliver an insightful and enjoyable presentation.

Instructions for speakers: You may submit as many proposals as you like. Selections will be made and notification given by February 1, 2009. Accepted speakers will be required to submit a short synopsis of their workshop, a recent photo (head shot) and any handout material no later than February 15, 2009. Presentations shall be one hour in length with a 10 minute Q&A session.

Audio Visual Equipment: Please notify the committee at least 30 days in advance to allow us time to obtain it.

Submission instructions: Submissions MUST include the following:
a) abstract - including the title your workshop, target audience (beginner, intermediate, and advance), audiovisual needs, and a detailed one page outline (limit 500 words).

b) Genealogical resume' - please state your experence in genealogy in general, as well as your expereince in the specific topic on which you propose to leacture, any lectures/workshops you presented in the past and any certificates etc. you've earned. Prior public speaking experience is NOT required.

c) Submissions - may be made electronically (preferred or by US mail. Any computer format is acceptable (Word or PDF preferred).

Disclaimer: Due to the nominal fee charged to the participants, no compensation is available to presenters. All organizers and presenters participate on a voluntary basis. Lunch and syllabus will be provided.
