Bishop Edward Turner's Message

Relationships provide the most effective communication. As such, I have always encouraged community members to build and strengthen our relationships with the people we serve. The Clergy Councils are an excellent example of dynamic and effective communication. Together, we can enhance the quality of services we provide.

It started as a vision God gave me in Puerta Allegro, Brazil while working with Dr. Morris Cerullo of Morris Cerullo World Evangelism, San Diego, California.

It was 1979 when I first received a Word from the Lord concerning the ministry. He was birthing within my spirit. I had such a witness that this would be the beginning of something great. Being obedient and submitted to my Pastor, the late Dr. Wayne Sylvester Davis of the First Apostolic Church of Inglewood, I stayed under his leadership and did not move out and begin this work until 5 years later on March 4, 1984, when we opened the doors to Power of Love Christian Fellowship.

Helping Our People Excel for Life Foundation (H.O.P.E. for Life Foundation)

Helping Our People Excel (H.O.P.E.) for Life Foundation is a non-profit community based 501(c)(3) organization that was established to proactively influence the South Los Angeles community with hope and a vision of the American Dream. A catalyst of reform and change is essential to begin the rebuilding of the community and its families. The H.O.P.E. for Life Foundation is that catalyst. In view of the apparent needs of the community the foundation emerged to be a constant positive motivating force in an environment in need of direction and purpose. H.O.P.E. wants to draw together members who strive to uplift the collective self-esteem and ignite hope in the lives of the people in this community.

H.O.P.E. for Life Foundation functions as the lead agency and Field Office that works directly with the Sheriff’s Multi-Faith Clergy Council and the community.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Multi-Faith Clergy Council

The Multi-Faith Clergy Council is the vital link between the Sheriff’s Department and the communities we serve. This communication link has given the Department the ability to ‘care’ for our constituents in a way outside the norm for law enforcement while demonstrating courage to unite communities. This ability transcends the badge and gun, and is actively exhibited through the numerous outreaches to our communities. This effective partnering can help decrease crime and enhance the quality of services the Department provides.

The Multi-Faith Clergy Council has committed to actively assist and support the community and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in both spiritual and natural edification. We are committed to honor and uphold the values of our creator and man while demonstrating wisdom and common sense. It is during these turbulent times that some will attempt to separate the good of both entities, but to that we share the definition of synergy: the interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of the individual effects. It is to this end that we encourage partnering between law enforcement and clergy whole-heartedly.

Community Day

Community Day is an annual event established to share with our community many of the necessities of life they are lacking-namely food and clothing, and to also provide available resources demonstrating a mutual responsibility and societal interdependence for the less fortunate. But Community Day is more than that!

Community Day also brings established entrepreneurs offering a myriad of goods and services to this annual event-some offering automobiles, employment, health care and much, much more. Community Day has become a highly anticipated event in the community.

We are proud to say that Community Day serves the underrepresented segment of our population in a variety of ways. During each Community Day, families are allowed to receive as much food as they can carry away, along with new clothing, shoes, health care services, and employment opportunities.

Community Day is also a venue for entrepreneurs to showcase their goods and services to the community and to network with one another. Employers and prospective employees are brought together with on-site interviews and job offers. We are proud to have 'renters' come to the information seminar on home buying and leave away as homeowners! As the young people started out 'serving the less fortunate' they remain a vital part of Community Day!

Our youth now have their own open forum where they can hear keynote messages geared for their age group and an open forum to express their concerns and receive vital information as well as showcase their talents and gifts in a wholesome and positive environment.
